There is a serious gap of practice between high school and collegiate mock trial. Many high school programs are guaranteed as few as four competitive rounds a year. In college, teams compete in four rounds a weekend — and they do it again the next weekend, and the one after that.

Trial advocacy is a performance skill, and like others, it is built through repetition: examining witnesses until it becomes instinct, arguing objections until the ROE feels like a first language, and standing up in front of judges until the nerves are gone. No one gets there in four rounds a year. What makes this gap frustrating is that the talent is already here. High school competitors are sharp, driven, and capable of remarkable advocacy.
